Just the Three of Us
It’s official, after seven wonderful weeks of paternity leave and vacation time, my husband had to go back to work on Monday. It’s now just me and the girls at home.
Monday started off great. Mommy had a shower in the morning and was dressed and ready for the day by 7am. By 11am, the girls and I were off running mini errands – the bank and Babies R Us.
Heading out the door with two newborns is no easy (or fast) task. What used to take me two minutes to get out the door, now takes up to 30!
The girls are eating about every three hours, so I need to get them changed, fed, and burped first. Then, I check the clock to see how much time I have before their next feeding, this is my “window of opportunity.” When I am by myself, I am trying to get all of their feedings done at home, because it is so much easier!
The diaper bag needs to be packed with bottles, formula, diapers, wipes, blankets, burp cloths, extra onesies, a changing mat, and of course hand sanitizer. The girls need to be strapped into their car seats. Once every one is ready to go, you cross your fingers and hope no one has a diaper “blow out” before you head to the car.
There are going to be times when both babies are crying and need your attention. I have finally figured out how to pick both babies up at the same time and can get them both on a shoulder. Sometimes I use the Moby or the Baby Bjorn to carry one baby and have free hands to do other chores around the house.
Speaking of chores, they are becoming a last priority. If I can get a load of laundry in and the dishes done, it is a good day.
I also work from home and am learning how to find that balance to make sure that I am able to carve out enough time throughout the day to work on my computer. Working also forces chores to take another back seat at times.
I have figured out how to feed both babies at one time and this definitely saves me a lot of time. As long as the girls are on the same schedule, this is the way to go. I have a pack n play set up with two boppy pillows inside. Prop the girls up inside the boppy pillows and I am able to feed them both simultaneously.
I love being with my girls all of the time and watch them grow. Yesterday, Katelyn hit a big milestone. She was able to hold her head up, doing a push-up during tummy time, for the first time! It’s the little moments like this that I am so glad I won’t miss!
Being a stay-at-home Mom of twins and a real “OC Housewife”, is definitely a lot of work, but it truly is a blessing and I would not trade it for anything in the world.
