Everyone who knows me, knows this… I love the Angels and Angel Stadium is my happy place!

(Check out my Mickey Scavenger Hunt posts from the 2010 MLB All Star Game)

Last night, we went to our last Angels game before the girls arrive!

Before this game, the Angels have definitely been struggling, scoring only one run over their last 30 innings, on their 1-6 road trip. It was time for the Angels to turn things around. I asked, and thankfully, they answered!

We were so lucky to have received awesome tickets from Smile Generation! Smile Generation is a referral service for best-in-class dentists, I’m the first person to tell you that finding a dentist is not easy, (since I am so picky) because I went through 4 dentists before finding the perfect one in So Cal!

Back on their home turf, and the first inter-league game of the season, for both teams, the Angels dominated! Ervin Santana pitched a four-hitter for his sixth career shutout! Mark Trumbo hit a 3-run homer and Alberto Callapso had 3 R.B.I’s.

Everyone had an extraordinary game and the Angels finally got out of their losing funk. It was an awesome “last live game” to attend for the season! (Don’t worry… when possible, I never miss a game from my couch!)

As if “Lighting up the Halo” isn’t the perfect ending to a perfect night, Fridays are also Big Bang Fridays at the Big A! Angels Stadium definitely has one of the best fireworks displays I’ve seen, and if you have not seen it, you need to buy tickets to a Friday night game!

With a big victory last night, we finally got our mojo back. The Angels will take on the Braves again tonight at 7:05 p.m.

Let’s Light Up the Halo!!

I had the pleasure of exploring Ocean Institute for the first time on Friday and I was blown away! If you have not been to Dana Point to see this place, it is a must see in Orange County! They host hundreds of field trips, overnights, and sea adventures. Kids walk away saying it was the best trip they ever had.

Ocean Institute is a non-profit organization that has become nationally recognized for its hands-on marine science, environmental education and maritime history programs. More than 110,000 K-12 students and 8,000 teachers annually participate in the Institute’s 61 award-winning, immersion style programs.

To learn about oceanography, science, and California history, students voyage onto the ocean, study in labs and live aboard tall ships or in the chaparral, where they can feel and taste the salty sea spray, sort through live specimens, observe migrating whales, collect scientific data and investigate the culture and world around them.

On weekends, we open our doors to the public for a sneak peek into how ocean science, history, and literature are used to inspire life-long learners!

I was completely fascinated by Ocean Institute and wished that my school in Maine could’ve taken part of some of the adventures. Then I found out that the organization is nationally recognized and they also bring in groups of kids via live stream around the world. How cool is that! Seriously, this place is amazing.

So, you may have heard of Ocean Institute’s 6th Annual Laguna Beach Million Dollar Home Raffle. Since OI is a non-profit organization, this is the biggest event of the year and plays a large role in keeping their doors open. For the 6th year in a row, they are raffling off a Million Dollar Home in Laguna Beach! Don’t want a home? No problem, you can take the $1 million dollars instead!

Raffle tickets are $150 and a maximum of 20,000 tickets will be sold. You will have a lot better odds in this raffle than winning the lottery! Over 300 prizes will be awarded, including the grand prize of $1,000,000 cash or a beautiful, ocean-view home in Laguna Beach. Other prizes include cash, shopping sprees, dream vacations, iPods, hotel stays, and more!

Buying more then one ticket? You will also be entered into additional multiple ticket drawings including a Toyota Prius, South Coast Plaza Shopping Spree, Cash, or a dream vacation! If you refer-a-friend you will be entered into a separate drawing where you AND your friend could win $10,000 cash!

Raffle tickets may be purchased over the phone by calling 949-542-3600 or by faxing your order form to 949-542-3601.

By purchasing a raffle ticket, you will also receive a complimentary Individual Membership to Ocean Instittue. If you purchase two or more tickets, you will receive a complimentary Family Membership! Get ready to explore a whole new world, under the sea!

All proceeds from the raffle will benefit Ocean Institute, so really, this is a 100% win-win!

The 81st Major League All-Star Game between the American and National League will take place in Anaheim on July 13, 2010. After weeks of campaigning, fans were able to vote online for their favorite players. This year, over 220 million votes were cast online.

There is quite a system for determining how players make it to the All-Star Game. Fans can vote either online or through a paper ballot system which is distributed throughout the MLB stadiums early in the season. They can cast up to 25 ballots and vote for one person in each field position for both National and American League, excluding pitchers.

Baseball fans will vote 8 starting players into the All-Star Game for the National League and 9 starting players into American League. The ninth player that is voted into the American League by the fans is the designated hitter. Fan voting is often criticized because most of the starting players come from teams with large followings, like the Yankees or Red Sox.

There are sixteen athletes that are voted into the MLB All-Star game through player voting which includes players, coaches and managers. This includes 8 pitchers (5 starters, 3 relievers) and one back-up player for each position that was voted in by the fans.

Nine players make it into the All-Star Game through manager selection. Both the American and National Leagues will have a consultation to complete their rosters to 33 players. The National League manager will also select their team’s designated hitter. The leagues make sure that every team is represented by at least one player.

Today, on our nation’s birthday, the MLB All-Star team rosters were unveiled at 12 Noon. Beginning this year, each team roster will carry 34 All-Stars, but only 33 were revealed. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in the Final Vote, where they choose one All-Star from a list of five players from each league. The final player for each roster will be announced on July 10.

A complete list of the All Star lineup can be found on the MLB website.

Hollie Eisenman!

After 21 years, Angels Stadium of Anaheim will once again host the Major League Baseball All Star Game! All Star Week runs July 9-13 and to celebrate the festivities, the City of Anaheim announced on June 2nd, that Major League Baseball and Disney Consumer Products, would begin populating key locations in Southern California, with thirty-six 7.5 foot, 989 pound, unique All-Star Mickey Mouse statues.

On June 11, MLB and Disney Consumer Products launched a Find Mickey Scavenger Hunt. Fans were encouraged to visit the statues and would have the opportunity to be rewarded for it! They announced that 37 prizes would be awarded. The first eligible participant to tweet a photo of themselves with one of the Mickey Mouse statues would win a 7.5 inch replica version of that statue. The first participant to tweet a link to a photo gallery of themselves in front of all 36 states will win the grand prize, two tickets to the MLB All-Star Game on July 13!

It did not take long for the news to go viral, and MLB released a list of the statue locations. Statues were as far South as Laguna Beach, as far North as Santa Monica and as far East as Rancho Cucamonga. With the All-Star festivities taking place in Southern California, home of Disneyland, what better iconic figure to bring fans together than Mickey Mouse!

To enter the contest, participants were asked to first fill out a form on the MLB website and then submit their photo or gallery via twitter using the hashtag, #allstarmickey.

On June 6th, I set off on a mission, to find all of the All Star Mickey Mouse statues. It was an amazing journey that took me 6 days, 650 miles, over 22 hours, and 3 tanks of gas. I was fortunate to see many parts of Southern California that I may not have seen before. I was challenged to drive in traffic that I never would’ve chosen to drive in before. I set a goal, and I accomplished it.

On June 11th, when the contest opened, I was the first person to tweet a link of my photo gallery to MLB. My heart was pounding and I was not only extremely excited, but a major sense of accomplishment set in because I did this mission all by myself. I felt on top of the world!

On June 25, I received an email from Major League Baseball stating that I had 24 hours to fax in a notarized affidavit. I saw this email come across on my iPhone when I was in the middle of a campground in Pismo Beach for our family reuninon. I jumped out of my chair, grabbed my husband, spun in a circle and screamed, “Woohoo, Let’s go!”

We drove into town and came across Office Max. They were unable to pull the PDF from my email and could not print the document I needed. Time was not on our side, so we decided to head to a Holiday Inn Express so I could print the document myself. The computer did not have the Adobe program on it so I had to wait for 15 minutes while I downloaded the Reader. Finally, my documents were printed.

Next, I needed to find a notary. I was going to head to Bank of America but found out they do not notarize documents that are not insured by the bank. Finally, after several phone calls, I found a notary that was in town but was leaving in ten minutes. I got there just in time. After my documents were notarized, and $20 later, everything was faxed back to New York.

The next day, I received a phone call from Major League Baseball, that I was officially the Grand Prize Winner! All of my hard work has paid off! I will have the best 1st year anniversary present for my husband! We are both baseball fans and we LOVE the Angels! July 13th is a day we are both looking forward too!
